Remodeling Your Kitchen? Check out these tips first
First and foremost you must plan your project before remodeling your house. Don’t just start tearing your kitchen apart without careful consideration as to how you want it to look when it is complete.
Next choose your design, there are three different traditional designs that you can choose from.
The U-shaped kitchen which researchers suggest is for most women that stayed at home during the day, worked alone in the kitchen, cooked most meals from scratch and needed storage space for about 400 items.
Next is the L-shaped kitchen which researchers suggest is for women that work outside the home, share cooking, prepare few foods from scratch and require storage space for about 800 items.
Finally the Galley kitchen which researchers now suggest provides convenience, traffic space, distances between items and countertop and cabinet space.
Consider an island, it gives you more work space than traditional countertops. Also consider a microwave over your range thus allowing for even more countertop space. Now choose your cabinet style. There is the European (frameless) or the Face Framed. Each one has a variety of door, wood and finish options.
Next you should choose your countertop. Most do-it-yourselfers choose either tile or laminate countertops because they offer less hassle when installing. The marble and granite are difficult to install. There are many options to choose from when it comes to your flooring. There are ceramic tile, wood, laminate and linoleum. All are good choices it just depends on how much you want to spend on your project.
Now choose your sink and mounting style. There is a combination of size and features like; cast iron, stainless steel and plastic. The mounting style can be either top mount or undermount with a single bowl, double bowl, deep or shallow feature.
Now you will need to choose your appliances. The refrigerator can be side by side or top and bottom. Your range can be gas or electric, smooth top or halogen. It is totally up to you.
Now that you have decided which design, cabinet style, coutertop, floor and appliances you can get ready to remove your old kitchen. Start by removing your appliances first, then disconnect any drain and water supply. Remove the countertops and then the cabinets. You are now ready to begin. Take your time and enjoy your project.
